Custom Hide Tanning is the centerpiece of our work here at Rocky Mountain Tanners. Whether you’ve been elk hunting, deer hunting, bison hunting, or any kind of big game hunting around the world, RMT can turn those deer hides, elk hides, bison hides, or hides from any big game animal into beautiful, supple, tough custom leather just for you. Hair on Hides are also a great way to enjoy your harvest for many years. Don’t waste that hide after your deer, elk, or bison hunt, let us tan it for you for the possibility to turn it into custom leather products that you will enjoy and cherish for many years to come.
Have an exotic hide in need of tanning? No problem! We have successfully tanned a wide variety of hides including: beef cattle, antelope, moose, bear, sheep, coyote, bobcat, raccoon, red fox, and beaver, plus the occasional yak, alligator, horse, tiger, etc. While custom tanned leather is useful, there are a few hides that can only be tanned with the hair on. These include: coyote, bobcat, raccoon, red fox, beaver, and other small game.
Please be aware that proper hide tanning takes time and is not normally a quick process. Our turnaround time generally averages 6 to 9 months. However, it can certainly take longer than that and in some cases if a hide is sent in or dropped off just after we have tanned a batch for the year, can take as long as 12-14 months. The time to completion will depend on several factors. Please don't call us to check on the status of your hides until at least 12 months after drop off - we call you as soon as we receive your custom tanned hide and it is ready for pick up. If you have not received a call from us stating that your hide is ready for pick up, then it is not finished and it is not available for pick up. Hides are tanned in large batches. If we receive your hide in late winter, spring or summer your hide may take longer than normal. Please have patience with this process and we will always contact you as soon as your hides are ready, there is no need to contact us to check on your hides.
At Rocky Mountain Tanners, we offer a variety of additional services for your to preserve your trophy animal.
